Letter from the Principal (September, 2015)
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Results from the 2015 spring Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests have been made available to schools. Assessments are one way we are meeting your child’s needs. We use assessments, at the school, district and state levels, to make critical decisions about instruction, interventions and support, and district policies.
This year, testing our students was particularly challenging for the following reasons:
- The assessments represent the first time students were tested on new academic standards for English and Math. The new standards raise expectations for learning in Missouri to meet our goal of preparing all students for success throughout their school years and beyond.
- Assessments for grades 3-8 were administered online for the first time.
- The 2015 tests set a new baseline for student performance in Missouri. Please note that these test results cannot be compared with results from previous years, as these are new tests with different learning expectations.
New academic standards have also brought new definitions of the four proficiency levels: below basic, basic, proficient, and advanced. Families should remember that the 2015 MAP test proficiency levels are based on different academic standards and cannot be compared with results from previous years. We are committed to ensuring that all children in our district are prepared for success. We look forward to a successful new school year with you and your student.
Individual MAP results will be distributed during student-led conferences on September 22 & 24 to ensure that these documents remain confidential and make it home.
