The Francis Howell School District has announced the hiring of Daniel Harmon as the new administrative intern at Hollenbeck Middle School, effective July 1, 2019. “Joining Hollenbeck Middle School provides me the opportunity to partner with a learning community that is truly committed to supporting the growth of all its members,” said Harmon. “I am impressed with the commitment that Hollenbeck staff bring to serving their students and can't wait to work alongside such talented educators. I am thrilled to join the Hollenbeck family and look forward to getting to know our students, staff, and community members.”

Harmon has taught at Maplewood-Richmond Heights Elementary School for the past seven years as a sixth grade teacher. He has helped lead efforts to revise the social, emotional, and behavioral support systems of the school as well as overhauling the disciplinary processes. He helped lead the initiative to implement Restorative Practices within the school as a core component of the class communities. He is also working with building leadership to help the school community become more informed about the way that trauma impacts both students and staff. He has also assisted in the school’s efforts to obtain Missouri School of Character status.

Before moving to the classroom, Harmon spent more than five years working with adolescents in both the social service and correctional fields. During that time, he worked with students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. In addition to providing for their daily care, his duties also included the ongoing training and development of direct care staff, managing the daily operation of a residential housing facility, and providing individual and small group facilitation to students facing a variety of learning challenges.

Harmon received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from MidAmerica Nazarene University. He also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Maryville University and middle school education certification from Harris-Stowe State University.
